Dear Sir,
I feel compelled to applaud your recent public objection to the tone, and subtly implied substance in recent media events by our political opponents, regarding the great American (not just African American) Civil Rights Leader Dr. Martin Luther King.
I must share with you that Barack Obama, through his own oratory caused to inspire me to view, for the first time, Dr. King's "I have a Dream" Video. I was moved to tears as a consequence of the nobility, and selfless courage of a man so steeped in love and imbued with Spirit, Justice, and Compassion as to defy articulation. After seeing the video, I sought out the text of his speech and was again moved beyond measure.
I am 52 years of age and a Buddhist. I was born in Cuba, and grew up in Miami in a family where my father held a racist view during my childhood and teenage years (though I am grateful that he has come now to see the light in his old age), and it affected my own views for a time. I am ever grateful to have matured over the years and come to know, at the depth of my being, that all humans--and for that matter all of 'Gods' creatures--are ONE at their deepest core; and that love binds us all but for those unfortunates who have forgotten their true nature and suffer in the illusion of separateness.
I wonder how many more years of my life would have passed and I not experienced such a masterpiece of impassioned oratory by Dr. King, but for the example set by Barack Obama through his own impassioned oratory. Oratory clearly inspired by Dr. King; and, though Dr. King was incomparable, Barack Obama, in my opinion, does his memory justice.
We Americans, and every citizen of every Country, and all creatures great and small, stand today before a crisis that looms before us and threatens us with a descent into a hell on earth if not outright extinction over time. Should we continue to act as children "Home Alone", selfishly fighting over toys, I would submit that we are doomed to descend into barbarism and savagery as we begin to fight over ever decreasing supplies of Oil, and Water, and Food. If we don't begin to immediately turn this ship--our Planet Earth--from its present course, and then accelerate this course correction, by turning its people--starting with the people of the United States of America--all children of the world will be cursed with a life set in a "Road Warrior" World, as in the Mel Gibson movie, as their inheritance.
So, I ask you Dear Sir, to whom would you entrust the tiller of this ship? What Captain of Politics and Leadership at our disposal in today's election cycle has the integrity, AUTHENTIC passion, and natural leadership talent to inspire us to again reach for greatness? Who can be a moral and ethical example in this age of depravity, indolence, greed, and cynicism?
Of the candidates running for President, only one stands far above all others, his name is Barack Obama.
I urge you, Congressman Clyburn, to grant your endorsement to Senator Barack Obama. Please help him to continue to walk in the footsteps of Dr. King--all the way to Victory in November--for ALL of our sakes.
I thank you for your distinguished service to our Country and its People.
