Think Globaly, but act Localy

Posted on Jul 26th, 2008 by dragpa gyaltsen : Interpreter of Emptiness dragpa gyaltsen

--Think Globally, but act Locally--

Is an injunction steeped in wisdom. Let me deconstruct the above injunction:

First what is an injuction? It is, in my opinion, a stronger and more elegant word for command. Why use it? Because to use it we need to THINK, we are forced to LEARN, and to use our minds (use it or lose it, lol).

So, on that note of thinking, what is the first thing that this injunction enjoins?

1. THINK - First it enjoins us to think! What a novel concept in this world of sound-bites and "force fed news".

2. GLOBALLY - Then it reminds us that we are an interdependent whole on this spinning rock, this space faring vessel that we call planet earth. A vessel that we have been trashing to the point of the incipient failure of it's life support system.

3. ACT - Second to last, it exhorts us to ACT. For thinking only--without ever acting--is merely a narcissistic exercise that achieves nothing other than continuing to delude us into believing (and believe me, I have been guilty of this very delusion) just how special; how brilliant, and important, we believe ourselves to be.

4. LOCALLY - Finally, this great injunction instructs us that the Local stage of affairs is where we can create--by example--the inertia to take a movement global and make a real difference in the world.

A few days ago I received my weeky message/gift from my dear friend from KPC, Ani Alana (An Ani is a Buddhist Nun) who is on retreat at our Temple's Central Arizona property "Dakini Valley". It is a fitting quote from Seneca (Roman philosopher, mid 1st century AD)

It is not because things are difficult
that we do not dare,
it is because we do not dare
that things are difficult."

So, please join me in acting locally--wherever you might be--for the sake of our world. Lets encourage, and gently push each other (with good humour and friendship) onwards to greater and greater effort leading to results. After all, we are IT. It is up to us and there is no one else that can do what must be done.

My Email to Congressman James E. Clyburn of South Carolina

Posted on Jan 12th, 2008 by dragpa gyaltsen : Interpreter of Emptiness dragpa gyaltsen

Dear Sir,

I feel compelled to applaud your recent public objection to the tone, and subtly implied substance in recent media events by our political opponents, regarding the great American (not just African American) Civil Rights Leader Dr. Martin Luther King.

I must share with you that Barack Obama, through his own oratory caused to inspire me to view, for the first time, Dr. King's "I have a Dream" Video. I was moved to tears as a consequence of the nobility, and selfless courage of a man so steeped in love and imbued with Spirit, Justice, and Compassion as to defy articulation. After seeing the video, I sought out the text of his speech and was again moved beyond measure.

I am 52 years of age and a Buddhist. I was born in Cuba, and grew up in Miami in a family where my father held a racist view during my childhood and teenage years (though I am grateful that he has come now to see the light in his old age), and it affected my own views for a time. I am ever grateful to have matured over the years and come to know, at the depth of my being, that all humans--and for that matter all of 'Gods' creatures--are ONE at their deepest core; and that love binds us all but for those unfortunates who have forgotten their true nature and suffer in the illusion of separateness.

I wonder how many more years of my life would have passed and I not experienced such a masterpiece of impassioned oratory by Dr. King, but for the example set by Barack Obama through his own impassioned oratory. Oratory clearly inspired by Dr. King; and, though Dr. King was incomparable, Barack Obama, in my opinion, does his memory justice.

We Americans, and every citizen of every Country, and all creatures great and small, stand today before a crisis that looms before us and threatens us with a descent into a hell on earth if not outright extinction over time. Should we continue to act as children "Home Alone", selfishly fighting over toys, I would submit that we are doomed to descend into barbarism and savagery as we begin to fight over ever decreasing supplies of Oil, and Water, and Food. If we don't begin to immediately turn this ship--our Planet Earth--from its present course, and then accelerate this course correction, by turning its people--starting with the people of the United States of America--all children of the world will be cursed with a life set in a "Road Warrior" World, as in the Mel Gibson movie, as their inheritance.

So, I ask you Dear Sir, to whom would you entrust the tiller of this ship? What Captain of Politics and Leadership at our disposal in today's election cycle has the integrity, AUTHENTIC passion, and natural leadership talent to inspire us to again reach for greatness? Who can be a moral and ethical example in this age of depravity, indolence, greed, and cynicism?

Of the candidates running for President, only one stands far above all others, his name is Barack Obama.

I urge you, Congressman Clyburn, to grant your endorsement to Senator Barack Obama. Please help him to continue to walk in the footsteps of Dr. King--all the way to Victory in November--for ALL of our sakes.

I thank you for your distinguished service to our Country and its People.

CNN Pandering to HRC -- Causes me to reflect on what's important

Posted on Jan 11th, 2008 by dragpa gyaltsen : Interpreter of Emptiness dragpa gyaltsen
Thursday night (01/10/08), seeking news of Campaign, and how Barack Obama was being covered, I turned on CNN to have look. I listened to Anderson Cooper lob up 'balls' for the 'CNN Consultants' to 'hit'. I saw Donna Brazil and some other talking heads whose meaningless names I can't recall, spew the most condescending, pathetically disguised, put down of Barack Obama and Glorification of Hilliary Rodham Clinton (HRC) that I've seen yet.

Where was that 'Darling' of the media, in Obama, from before the NH Primary and after Iowa?

They make me sick!

I am boycotting TV News. Maybe I'll try MSNBC at times, but mostly I'll just watch CSPAN to get news...

----o----

Sigh... <deep breath>

I am a Buddhist. I have worked hard to take hold of my mind, to remember throughout the day that waking life is like a dream and only exists as a collection of objects of manifestation, which only exist as each relates to an other, in boundless combinations, and arise from the ground of timeless, boundless, luminous emptiness/fullness and infinite compassion. That though I operate within this world of form, within the context of this incarnation, that I remember not to become attached to it and its poisons. I remind myself to be a constant gardner; a gardner of the fields of my mind, such that love and compassion, wisdom and grace, grow ever deeper that I might continue grow to become an ever more effective conduit of spirit, for the sake of sentient beings....

I must tell you all that I have been challenged....

That anger arises in me, as they lie and cheat, and misrepresent our candidate, with their smug smarmy faces... And anger flares in me like lighter fluid sprayed onto a lit BBQ, and I have to work hard to see it for what it is, and let it go, that it float away no longer nourished by my attention. And then sadness, and fear, and depression comes to visit in turn, and I apply the same antidote, and let such objects of mind float away like clouds racing across a pristine, luminous blue sky leaving no trace of their passing.

For If I let those emotions settle upon the fertile fields of my mind they will wreak havock with that carefully tended garden, and distract this being which carries the label Chuck Tellechea from its support for this other magnificent brother and conduit of spirit; this uniter of men and women; this restorer of integrity and real compassion; this Leader, this Barack Obama.

I must redouble my efforts to not succumb to distraction. Tomorrow (Saturday) I am going to 'knock on doors' in Leesburg, VA with other volunteers, all else is noise...

The renaissance of erudition and statemanship in US Politics.

Posted on Jan 5th, 2008 by dragpa gyaltsen : Interpreter of Emptiness dragpa gyaltsen
There used to be a time when Politicans could really write; when they had, as a fundamental requirment of their service, a strong and even elegant command of the English language. When Politicans where Statesmen, rather than masters of the soundbite, and media mugging of their opponents in 30 seconds or less.

We once enjoyed a wealth of such statesmen who could write, and who's available media technology consisted of a precious supply of parchment, quill, and ink, and who graced this parchment with language worthy of the effort and expense to communicate their ideas and heartfelt opinions.

Back when this nation was young; when people took writing seriously because it was the only media; the skillful, elegant, and erudite use of language was a requirement of leadership and statecraft.

For example:

"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."

The Declaration of Independence was written by such Men, and considering the above passage, is it a stretch to draw a parallel with such men, and the challenges before them at the birth of this nation, with a Man such as Barack Obama and the challenges we now face? Does he have access, through the vehicle of his being, to the tools required to meet the challenges before us? I would emphatically submit that he does--in abundance--and which includes a sublime command of the English language.

I am ever grateful, that unlike our founding fathers, we do not today face an "Absolute Despotism" in America; however, we face Despotism none the less. A subtle Tyranny and Despotism of cynical and amoral self interest at the unnecessary expense of the common good. Of Machiavellian manipulation of media channels and of the basest of human emotions. A Tyranny less obvious yet as ultimately dangerous as that dispensed by an evident King oppressing the 13 Colonies of the New World. The Tyranny of these times has reduced most citizens of this nation to a state of numb apathy or to the extremes of polarized political cannibalism; that is, until this moment; and this Movement; until Barack Obama.

Barack's words "We are not blue states, or red states, but the United States..." will continue to reverberate across time. Barack's is a new Declaration of Interdependence; where men and women of all affiliations, as their most scared duty serve a common good, this nation and the World's good, along with their own and endeavour, together, to restore this nation to an embodiment of the values and purpose that once held us in the greatest International esteem.

I pray for Barack Obama's safety. We should all pray for his safety for he must certainly be a target now that he has proven to be 'Electable'. I pray that his message finds its way past the cynics and media pundits, past the fear mongering and doubt that it sows and into the hearts of enough people such that he can win the Democratic Nomination and the General Election.

We, in America, and in the World, desperately need an American President, and an American Government, that is much more "21st Century" and much less tied to the obsolete vision, and methods, of the last century. We need Leadership that is firmly Worldcentric in view, and that exhibits a much more enlightened perspective.

By far--nobody else is close--Barack Obama is that Man and could form such a Government.

A son's grief and a mother's legacy

Posted on May 14th, 2007 by dragpa gyaltsen : Interpreter of Emptiness dragpa gyaltsen
Who is this me that feels this pain and grief?
What is this form that takes this shape and seeks relief?
Yet, to just inquire about these things does set apart
that perspectival point of view that wounds this heart.

I AM that I AM that never fades
was never born, is now, and still remains
whose face was there when brillance burst at the big bang
and set in motion this cascading realm of space and time
this dance of Lila raising rocks to life and on
to self reflective consiousness that feels its mother's death
and learns that it is one with all that is
and feels the pain more sharply…
yet suffers less.

My Mother passes away on Mother's Day

Posted on May 13th, 2007 by dragpa gyaltsen : Interpreter of Emptiness dragpa gyaltsen
Mom_and_madi
Dear friends and fellow travelers in this realm of space and time,

My mother, Hilda Tellechea, passed away, peacefully in her sleep, at approximately 2AM EDST this morning. My Father spoke with her last night and she seemed to him to be in good spirits, in his impression the best she's been in days of illness.

I belive her heart just gave out from the strain of her poor capacity to breath as a result of her severe scoleosis and its effects on her lung capacity; that, coupled with her exhaustion from caring for my father as he recovered from surgery to remove a portion of his Liver that had developed some slow growing cancers. She had been in the hospital for almost a week and had been moved to a Recovery Center where we hoped that she would recover enough to go home after another week or so. Her death was unexpected, but not altogether unanticipated.

Her passing on Mother's day, upon reflection, seems rather auspicious to me. Hilda was a wonderful human being. Kind, generous, and loving. She was possessed of a discriminating wisdom and an abiding compassionate nature; never vindictful, never holding a grudge, always fair and just in her actions, in her relationships with friends, family, co-workers during her professional life--with everyone that she met.

I am sure that her journey through the Bardos will be a reflection of how she lived; full of kindness, compassion, and love.

I feel so very fortunate to have an understanding of the nature of this manifest realm of form, and sufficient experience of the unmanifest, boundless, luminous emptiness from which form arises, such that my pain and grief is limited to the portion of myself that still holds to an illusion of permanence. I am not imobilized with the intensity of hopeless grief that besets the poor unfortunate masses of human beings that are clueless to our true nature and whose grief reflects the crushing weight of finality and oblivion; or which take refuge in a mythological belief, and a mere faith, in some idealized afterlife.

I know as surely as the simple feeling of IAMNESS that pervades our experience can instruct, that I AM and my Mother's I AM are not two; that the realm of subtle energies in which the portion of consciousness that continues 'as' my Mother will deliver experience that is commensurate with the high quality of consciousness that my Mother held in life; therefore I am at peace that she will not suffer; but rather is released from the confines of a broken-down suit of flesh that no longer deserved the brilliance of her spirit's presence.

I will tell you all that her passing is a wake up call. Every passing instance of time that flows past the pointy end of our spear of volitionality is precious. What did we do with that instance of time? It is time to set aside the remnants of self indulgence and neurosis that allows these precious instances to be squandered unconsciously. I must intensify my commitment to use this precious human life, and the capacities of intellect, creativity, and grace with which I am endowed to make a difference in the world for the sake of all.

Yesterday, and the day before, I attended two events hosted by Andrew Cohen, in Washington DC, where he taught on evolutionary enlightenment and in his refreshingly direct, and compassionately brutal manner, exhorted us to wake up, and to give rise to the impulse to evolve at the level of consciousness itself and, moreover, to act upon it. We must dis-identify with the seperate self sense--the limited egoic contraction--and increasingly identify with, and as, the Authentic Self which abides between the ground of being and the limited egoic self.

With my mother's passing, in a very visceral way, my own impending death comes to the forefront of awareness as a call to action...

What did you do with *this* instance of time, Human?

.... What about this one?
And this one?
And this one? ....

The Medical Industrial Complex

Posted on Mar 10th, 2007 by dragpa gyaltsen : Interpreter of Emptiness dragpa gyaltsen
Lamentably, I have just declined an invitation to join a Pod associated with Health Care Insurance Reforms, that was being rehabilitated by a very well meaning and sincere person engaged in what he saw was a valuable service. These efforts do have, *some* value; though, as I submit here, and will below elaborate, operating within a system as flawed, at its very foundation, as the current health care industry is an excercise in futility, frustration, and is ultimately doomed to yield pathetically ineffective results.

I respond to his invitation with the following text (though I've elaborated a bit from the original message), which articulates my position on the Health Care Industry (Insurance Indusrty, AMA, FDA, Big Pharma):

---o---

There is a fundamental component to the insurance crisis that is not covered in the Pod. This forum, from what I can see by browsing the headings, is devoid of any discussion analyzing and showing the inadequacies of the fundamental paradigm of medicine advocated, perpetuated, and promoted by the AMA; the Policies of the FDA which enforce the same, and of the almost complete focus on alopathic medical solutions by both. This is perfectly in line with the aims of what I refer to as the "Medical Industrial Complex." which is all about Pharmaceutical Company profits, and a populace that is perenially sick, and therefore generating doctor visits, prescription drug sales, and Insurance company income; and is *much* less about resolving their patient's health issues, and mitigating the suffering, of human beings.

However, I want to state that there are probably millions of healthcare professionals that engage in valiant service, convinced that they are doing the very best they can for a suffering and sick populace, whose hearts are filled with compassion and are motivated by a duty to heal sickness and dissease, and which have *NO CLUE* that the paradigm under which they work is utterly flawed. Its not as if there was a great, ongoing consipiracy. I would submit that if the average executive of a large pharmaceutical company's father was struck down by cancer, that he (or she) would send thier father to the best possible practitioner of surgery, chemotherapy, and other alopathic remedies. The consipiracies occured over 50 years ago and are mostly forgotten by now. What remains today is the tragic inertia of an industry that pruposefully blinded itself to ongoing research and inovation in the past--for the sake of vested interest's (an upstart pharmaceutical industry) profits--with the current result being an atavistic, self perpetuating, ignorance, mythology, and barbarism.

If you care to dig a bit, you will find a history of, corruption, slander, and the outright supression of Energy/Frequency Therapies, both in their roles to support healing, and in directly disabling/killing pathogens; you will find distortions and obfuscantion on the origin and nature of cancer, and suppresion of non pattentable treatments, etc.

The human body is primarilly an energetic system. Matter itself is 'condensed energy'. Chemical therapies are a coarse, secondary level, manipulation. Though such chemical therapies can often be the appropriate treatment modality, to deny the efficacy of all other modalities, especially those involved with energies of various kinds, is outrageous. Let's not even consider, for the moment, sublte energies that are only now yeilding scientific, reproducible, experimental results. Lets temporarily not consider that human intention and consciousness, which acts to work with such subtle energies through SU(2) guage symetries, can robustly affect 'ordinary' U(1) guage symetry space time, matter and energy, and therefore empower healing modalities--known for milenia--but repudiated by modern scientific materialism (see my recent post). let's just deal with the ordinary, classical, actions of electromagnetic resonant waves on living tissues and the cellular structures of pathogens (virus, bacteria, and fungi). Why is it that the FDA suggests treating food meats to eliminate these same pathogens with non-ionizing, electromagentic frequencies, generated via high voltage currents running within noble gas plasma tubes, tuned to the base resonant frequencies of the pathogens to be destroyed (they literally explode from resonance induced in their cellular structures)? Such is available on the FDA site (though I've not found the URL recently and lost my bookmark); yet, the FDA would prosecute any physician that employed such methods on human beings?

The bottom line for me, is that to engage in any discussion attempting to rehabilitate an Insurance system that is rigged as a cash cow for the "Medical Industrial Complex" , in exchange for human mysery, is, at best, a fools errand (no insult intended). And Its simply a waste of my time. The entire, Medical Industry needs to be 'taken out and beaten thoroughly with a large stick, such that like an old dirt, and filth, encrusted carpet, the filth (politial corruption, economic monopolies, mythological scientific materialism, entrenched greedy institutuions) can be beaten out of it. Any 'cosmetic' solution, that leaves the fundamentally flawed paradigm of Medicine and Healthcare in place, as the basis for a Health Insurance Solution, is flawed beyond redemption.

William A. Tiller and a new paradigm in Physics and Mathematics

Posted on Mar 10th, 2007 by dragpa gyaltsen : Interpreter of Emptiness dragpa gyaltsen
Yesteday I posted, in the WIE Pod, a request that William A. Tiller be invited as
a featured guest of WIE Magazine as I believe that his work is of paramount importance. The implications of his work (unless suppressed) to the fields of medicine, global peace and conciliation between waring/fueding populations, Information Technologies, and Physics and Mathematics in Generel (and MUCH more) will, IMO, be revolutionary.

The posting on WIE's POD:
http://pods.zaadz.com/wie/discussions/view/71848

Below is the text of the posting:

---o---
I’ve recently had the opportunity to begin to study, at length, the work of William A. Tiller, Professor Emeritus of Materials Science at Stanford, and author of:

1. Conscious Acts of Creation

2. Science and Human Transformation: Subtle Energies, Intentionality and Consciousness

3. Some Science Adventures with Real Magic

Tonight, at the WIE Salon in DC, hosted by Robert Heinzman, I had the opportunity to share why I feel that Tiller’s work is of vital importance to the movement to further the conscious evolutionary process for the benefit of all beings–a ‘Divine Compulsion’ which I share and which WIE and Andrew Cohen embodies.

Tiller has managed to accumulate an impeccably crafted body of experimental data, as well as a mathematical model and physics, that substantiates that human intention and consciousness are an integral component of reality and which can affect matter and energy in a robust fashion.

The priesthood of scientific materialism can choose to ignore his, and his colleagues, work; however, they cannot dismiss him out of hand and brush him off as a quack, nut, and charlatan.

To my knowledge, Tiller’s work is unique in that this is the first time that a ‘card carrying’ member of the ‘priesthood’ of scientific materialism, has used their very ‘sacraments’ (mathematics and physics) as tools to repudiate the priesthood’s own, mythological, assertions. Moreover, Tiller and his colleagues have developed a competing frame of reference that ‘transcends and includes’ scientific work to date, yet integrates, and is consistent with, Tiller’s experimental findings and those of other investigators, as well as with the knowledge and spiritual traditions of millennia of human experience.

In my opinion, William Tiller’s work will begin to act as an inexorable ‘wedge’ that will act to splinter the buttressed mythological adherence to a purely materialist, ‘frisky dirt’, frame of reference and lead to the advent of new, and rigorous, research–by a new generation of scientists–into the nature of ‘reality’, that accounts for consciousness and human intention. Such can only, then, cause to accelerate mankind’s arrival at a ‘critical mass’ consensus that physical, conventionally measurable, reality operates in tandem with a reciprocal and equally real mirror of our ordinary physical reality, all within the context of emotion, mind, and spirit. Within such a model, we are all intrinsically inter-dependent, inter-related, and fundamentally non-dual.

The sooner mankind arrives at a critical mass, of the global population, which internalizes such a world view as their own–especially the subset of that population which consists of the leadership elements of NGOs, Governments, and Businesses–the sooner mankind can reliably act in a fashion that will protect, heal, and nurture the entire system (having realized ourselves to be non-dual with the system itself) rather than to continue, as we are today, to act to destabilize, and threaten to destroy, the very systems that make our own individual lives possible on this planet.

Ken Wilber’s work has been instrumental in rehabilitating the ‘Spiritual’ (recovering the baby thrown out with the bath water) in the face of the post modern attack on the traditions and their myths of the given. Conversely, I will submit that William Tiller is being equivalently instrumental in rehabilitating the ‘Spiritual’ in the face of 400 years of attack from scientific materialism.

René Descartes was instrumental in the differentiation between philosophy, science, and religion; and as such, provided a great service to the evolution of human consciousness by allowing each of these disciplines to further evolve independently. However, it is tragic that rather than to then transcend and include the fruits of this differentiation into a new, emergent, and higher synthesis of these individual disciplines, the world was thrust into 400 years of violent competition and dissociation between these very same disciplines; each erroneously claiming the entirety of truth onto themselves.

I believe that the world is now poised to begin to reintegrate these great disciplines of philosophy, science, and religion into a higher, emergent, synthesis. Ken Wilber and Andrew Cohen are exemplars from the fields of Philosophy and Religion (Though Ken also has a strong grounding in science) who have contributed, along with many others, towards this point. However, unless I’m mistaken (and please correct me if I am) I’ve yet to see any exemplar from the fields of Physics and Mathematics, that have contributed a formal, near complete, and paradigm breaking: theoretical physics model, body of experimental data, and mathematics, that contributes to this monumental task of reintegration, as has William A. Tiller.

Therefore, I urge WIE to invite William A. Tiller as a featured guest of WIE.

Confluence of Events

Posted on Mar 3rd, 2007 by dragpa gyaltsen : Interpreter of Emptiness dragpa gyaltsen
It has been quite a while since I wrote in this blog. I'm sorry I've not kept up. The excuses are irrelevant. Only renewed resolve, and action, is of any real merrit.

Since my last post, I've disolved one business partership and formed another. I've been focusing a great deal of my time and energy into this new business, having chosen to dedicate myself towards its success, for the benefit of self *and others*. Unfortunately, I've found that if one swings ones attention too far towards, and spends too much time in, a state of consciousness conducive to business performance, one's spiritual attunement diminishes, and ultimately, the quality of one's life suffers.

It is a quandry, how to maintain the necessary focus, on the 'material', in the interests of being sucessful in business--even when that business would ultimately support all manner of benefit in the world--and still remain grounded in 'pure view' and engaged in practice and meditation that facilitates and deepens such a view.

Today is Chotrul Duchen which celebrates Buddha Shakyamuni's display of fifteen days of 'miracles.' It is said that the Buddha displayed a miracle each day to spur the devotion and increase the merit of his current and future disciples.

Why should any of us be surprised by 'miracles' ? What is magic, and miracles, to the ignorant is a technology (albeit an internal technology of the mind, and of spirit) to those with knowledge and Skillful Means. What some might consider to be coincidence, merely a product of random chance, is generaly not. Serendipity has a basis in the power of prayer and focused intention, and in Karma.

Today is my 51st birthday. It is also Chotrul Duchen. Lama Mugsang Tulku visited KPC today and gave a teaching on Guru Yoga. Musgang Tulku is the reincarnation of the first throne holder of the Palyul Lineage and the brother of Genyenma Akhon Lhamo who, in turn, has reincarnated in the west as Jetsunma Akhon Lhamo, my root lama.

Is this a coincidental 'Confluence of Events' or, yet again, a wake up call for me, that I've a mission in this life, and to pay attention, follow my dharma, and make a difference in the suffering of beings?

Its more than belief, I know the later to be true.

I now leave for the Datacenter to take care of adding a new class C (255 IP Addresses) to our border routers with the intention in mind that our business will prove to be a vehicle for accomplishing my mission in this life.
